Featuring the best achievements of the past two years in Slovenia
The Zlata paličica (Golden Stick) Festival is a Slovenian biennial festival of performing arts for children and young people organised by the Lutkovno gledališče Ljubljana (Ljubljana Puppet Theatre), Slovenski gledališki inštitut (Slovenian Theatre Institute) and Cankarjev Dom Cultural and Congress Centre. The festival was founded in 1993, when its first edition - featuring exclusively theatre performances for children and young people -, was presented to the public. Starting with this year the festival will bring a selection of best Slovenian drama, musical, puppet, dance and experimental performances for children and young people aiming to present most successful artistic achievements in the field of performing arts. The 16th festival, which is to take place from 5th to 10th October 2015 in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana, will lay its special focus on cultural education, thus pursuing its goal of establishing standards of quality within the field of theatre for children and young people and encouraging a quality, diverse and continuous production of performing arts for children and young people. Organizing this year’s edition of the festival Lutkovno gledališče Ljubljana will be joined by the Slovenian Theatre Institute - dedicating itself as a National Institution to exploring and understanding of theatre culture - and the central Slovenian cultural and congress venue Cankarjev dom. One of the long term aims of the festival is to establish a systemic platform of cultural education in the field of performing arts, so the selectors’ task was to prepare - in addition to their selection of performances to be presented at the festival -, a list of recommended productions with which we wish to improve the quality of cultural content within educational programmes.
