Award for Museum of Puppetry

At the annual conference of the Network of European Museum Organizations in Valetta, Malta the Children in Museums Award, awarded by the European Museum Academy and the International Association of Children's Museums for the originality and excellence of bringing cultural heritage closer to children, was presented to the best children-friendly museum.

Awarded this time were two prizes, the main one to the Department of Art Education in the National Gallery of Singapore, whereas a Special Jury Award was presented to the Museum of Puppetry in Ljubljana. Included in the short list for the prestigious awards were twelve museums from Australia, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Great Britain, Slovenia and Singapore.

The Museum of Puppetry was founded in 2015 under the auspices of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and the Ljubljana Castle. It is a multifaceted project, which in addition to the exhibition of Slovenian puppets at the Ljubljana Castle also created the conditions for the systematic care of Slovenian puppetry culture heritage. The establishment of the Museum was financed by the Municipality of Ljubljana through the European Regional Development Fund and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia. The operation of the museum is also co-financed by the Municipality of Ljubljana.
