Opening of the Children-Spectators exhibition

31. 1. 2023

On 27 January 2023 the Children-Spectators illustration exhibition was opened at the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre.

The exhibition focuses on children's experiencing (especially) the performing arts. It is a curated selection of the exhibition of the same name, Children-Spectators, an exhibition of illustrations by renowned artists created as part of Creative Europe's project Mapping. Between 2019 and 2022, the Bologna Children's Book Fair invited illustrators to explore the theme of children as spectators. Each year, a panel of expert judges selected artworks from thousands of submitted illustrations that question how children’s imaginations help shape the field of art.The exhibition in the Puppet Theater includes more than 50 illustrations by authors from eighteen countries.

The opening of the exhibition was also  part of the three-day event Small Size Days, which is aimed at spreading and promoting performing arts for young audiences.

At the opening, a round-table on creativity for children was held. It was attended by the editor of the Children's and Youth Program on Television Slovenia and a member of the expert judges of the Zlata paličica platform, Martina Peštaj, dramatist Jera Ivanc, Saša Ogrizek from the Culture Department of the City of Ljubljana, national coordinator of cultural and artistic education Nataša Bucik, acting director of the Public Book Agency Katja Stergar, director and artistic director of the Maribor Puppet Theater Katarina Klančnik Kocutar, and it was led by LGL dramaturge Benjamin Zajc.

The exhibition is a part of the project Mapping. A Map on the aesthetics of performing arts for early years, supported by Creative Europe.
