PeekabooAn Experiential Performance, length 30 min

Peekaboo is an experiential play for toddlers, whose interest is aroused through rebuses—visual puzzles—by the acclaimed French illustrator Lucia Félix. These gently immerse the young viewers into their first interactive theatre experience, which combines elements of visual arts, dance and music, as well as modern technology, in equal measure.

By revealing and overlaying simple shapes and objects, the performers create new images that transcend the two-dimensional experience of a picture book, crossing over into the three-dimensional world of the theatre, in which the audience observes and emotionally engages in action that takes place word to word, motion to motion, object to object and picture to picture without following a rational narrative. The point of the experience is in play, surprise and pleasure. The concept of this visually poetic theatre experience is thus tied to children's curiosity, imagination and spontaneity.

After the show, the viewers get to play around with the objects they uncovered during the show, sharing with their companions the experience they just enjoyed. Accompanying the show itself is an interactive exhibition by Lucia Félix, which takes the form of a playground where the children can experiment with shapes, colours and objects. In the exhibition area, we can explore and touch the exhibits or play hide and seek.

Lucie Félix is a renowned French illustrator and writer of the picture books, designed for the youngest readers. Her picture book 2 yeux received a number of French awards, and among other the Sorciere Award for the Best Picture Book in 2013. Her creation stems from admiring children's development, their intuitive and imaginative processes and their vast natural and spontaneous curiosity.

Mateja Bizjak Petit is a director, dramaturge and a poet, living in France for 25 years and meeting the young audiences her entire career.  She keeps asking herself: is there anything nobler from the initiation of our youngest viewers into the artistic freedom? A vous de voir.
