Hamlet and a Half, Golden Stick Festival

Hamlet and a Half
Hamlet and a Half offers a behind the scenes view of a staging of Hamlet in a theatre. The relations in the theatre are as complicated as the drama itself, therefore the story of Hamlet transferred to the present time and state of affairs unfolds between the performers even before its premiere. Who wants to steal whose chair? Who shows a friendly face, scheming and plotting behind the back? Who cares for art and theatre and who only cares for his own profit? Using masks and techniques of a contemporary commedia dell' arte, every performer plays several roles in the performance, also offering regularly updated comments on current social issues and even including the descriptions of the action on stage, specially designed for the blind and visually impaired.
  • The performance is conceived according to the principles of the inclusive dramaturgy, enabling the blind and visually impaired to follow it as well. In the process of creation the creators of the performance also conceived substantive description of the actions on stage, in which they followed the Elizabethan theatrical convention, which, unfamiliar with stage directions, rather includes the descriptions of the events on stage in the dialogue. Designed for the visitors with sensory impairments is also a multi-sensory introduction to further facilitate the accessibility of theatrical content.
