The Mountain is a puppet performance that delves into the mythical tale behind the creation of the city of Nova Gorica, or Gorizia and Nova Gorica, exploring it through the prism of life's cyclical nature and existence.

The narrative is set in a cemetery and the central character is a small giant known as Mountain. She is so small that she can communicate with people other giants cannot even see. An uncommon alliance forms between Mountain and the people, transcending the barriers between their two worlds. When the existence of the valley where the people live is threatened, Mountain makes a sacrifice. In order to protect the people, she merges with nature, becoming one with it. From the mountain that serves as a testament to her memory, a city and fields of flowers blossom forth.

The artistic design by Enej Gal, creator of the masks and puppets used in the performance, takes inspiration from the origins of puppetry, particularly the sacred puppets of pre-ancient times which represented deities and were integral to religious and societal rituals. In the representation of mythological creatures and people, the performance will experiment with dimensions.

The performance will be directed by renowned Italian puppet director Giulio Settimo, presenting for the first time to the Slovenian audience.

The performance dramaturge is Tajda Lipicer who, based on research of the two sister cities Nova Gorica and Gorizia, and in collaboration with the director, uses facts to draw inspiration for the creation of a fictive myth of the founding of the city.
