Celarec & Bowrain

The performance by Slovenian duo Celarec & Bowrain at Ljubljana’s Puppet Theatre is a first-class auditory delight. Their music is based on the combination of piano (Tine Grgurevič) and drums (Blaž Celarec), blending ambient passages with subtle tonal nuances. The contrast between these two seemingly different instruments gradually fades, creating endless harmonies and exciting melodies. With carefully repeated patterns and thoughtfully developed counterpoint, their music becomes intelligent and intriguing, radiating a strong sense of modernity throughout the performance. Their blends classical, jazz, minimalism, electronic, and film music into a singular form, while their live performances becoming unique sound experiences.

Bowrain is regarded as an innovator in the Slovenian music scene, merging jazz and electronic influences. Alongside intricate piano melodies as a foundation, his expression is infused with imaginative electronic sound effects and atmospheric arrangements. For over a decade, whether as a solo artist or a collaborator, Bowrain has immersed his listeners in a deeply engaging auditory experience of exceptional quality. He studied in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Philadelphia, and has performed across Europe, America, South Africa, and Asia. His album Million Homes was released in 2024, followed by performances in Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, and Sanya in early 2025.

Blaž Celarec is a percussionist, drummer, clarinetist, and producer whose artistic sensibility was shaped by musical training spanning from clarinet to Latin American percussions. Recently, he has been performing primarily as a drummer and producer. He studied Latin percussion at the Conservatory in Rotterdam and subsequently spent extended periods in Havana, Cuba. He plays in bands such as Malamor, Severa Gjurin, Hamlet Express, Chris Eckman, among others. As a musician, he has contributed to over seventy albums, and as a producer and sound engineer, to thirty more. Celarec also composes music for theatre.
