Presentation

The Ljubljana Puppet Theatre is Slovenia’s central puppetry institution, rooted in the country’s centuries-old puppet tradition. With the opening of the Puppet Museum in 2015, it also became the official guardian of this rich cultural heritage. Today, the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre is a vibrant contemporary theatre that operates at the intersection of classical puppetry and modern performance poetics.

With over 110,000 visitors annually, the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre is one of the most visited theatres in Slovenia.

While nurturing a growing young audience, the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre also plays an active role in the development of contemporary European performing arts through its puppet shows for adults. With five permanent venues and up to twelve new productions annually, the theatre maintains a strong creative output. Its sustained international activity has positioned it as a key player in the region, and its LUTKE festival is recognised as one of Europe’s leading events dedicated to contemporary puppetry.

  • Location //

The Ljubljana Puppet Theatre is located at Krekov trg 2, in the former City Hall building, just steps away from the Ljubljana Central Market, the lower funicular station, and the castle tunnel. On the west side of the building, at street level, you'll find the LGL Bookstore, where tickets are also available.

We recommend using public transport to reach us. Take LPP bus no. 2 (stop: Lutkovno gledališče), or buses no. 13 and 20 (stop: Zmajski most). Several other LPP bus lines that pass through the city centre also stop nearby.

If arriving by car, we recommend parking on Streliška Street or nearby streets with parking meters. You can also use the Kapitelj Garage (Poljanski nasip 4) or the Kongresni trg Garage. Please note: the parking area in front of the theatre at Krekov trg is not a public car park.

The nearest BicikeLJ bike rental station is located at Pogačarjev trg 3.
