Festival LUTKE

18th International Biennial Festival of the Contemporary Puppetry Art

The renowned puppetry festival has been organised by Ljubljana Puppet Theatre since 1995. The festival focuses on original, quality and versatile international production of puppet, object and visual theatre. It presents an international selection of puppet performances, designed for both children and young people as well as adults.

The 18. edition of the festival will take place from 25th to 28th September 2026.

The festival Lutke, produced by Lutkovno gledališče Ljubljana and curated by Uroš Korenčan, Marko “Mare” Bulc, and Benjamin Zajc, will showcase a variety of puppetry techniques ranging from classic forms of animation to intriguing visual practices, from animation using basic materials to complex robotic cubes brought to life. Dozens of performances will take place at various venues across Ljubljana, showcasing the best that has happened in the world of puppetry in recent years.

 

The festival, which will take place from September 25 to 28, 2026, will feature 28 performances from 13 countries. This year’s highlights include the full presentation of the international project Transport and the Slovenian premiere of the stunning performance Tempo by Finnish master Kalle Nia.
