The Ljubljana Puppet Theatre has a museum research department that, together with the Ljubljana Castle Public Institute, takes care of the permanent exhibition. The permanent exhibition Images of Slovenian Puppet Art, 1910–1990 is located at the Ljubljana Castle.
The most interesting for visitors are the multi-sensory permanent exhibition above the Estates Hall of the Ljubljana Castle, where they can see the milestones of Slovenian puppetry and try their hand at puppetry skills, and the Castle Theatre, where the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre stages puppet shows, restored from the original, at special times. The Puppet Path also leads to both locations from Krekov Square along the funicular - an artistic installation with mechanically controlled puppet installations, which symbolically connects the two participating institutions (the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and the Ljubljana Castle). It thus connects the exhibition with the theatre profession and invites you to visit the Puppet Museum.
As a tribute to our great puppet artists and a tradition that has lasted for more than a century, the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre opened the first puppet museum in Slovenia at the end of May 2015 in cooperation with Ljubljana Castle.
The opening of the museum represents a pioneering work for Slovenian puppetry, as puppetry in our country has not yet been professionally examined and, in addition to the exhibition of Slovenian puppets, it also establishes systemic care for the field of Slovenian puppetry heritage.
The museum houses an extensive collection of objects from Slovenian puppet history - in addition to puppets, the collection also includes stage elements, technical sketches, archival documents, etc. The museum also prepares/conducts creative workshops, pedagogical programs, and also connects at the international level.

At the Puppet Museum, we look forward to new and interesting projects. With them, we revive forgotten puppet stories, collect and revive memories of puppet history. In doing so, we connect domestically and internationally with institutions that research puppet art, theater and museum work.
In order to connect the past with the present, we want you to co-create projects with us, so we will be especially happy to receive all your suggestions, responses and old puppet stories. If you would like to connect with us, please let us know at
