 The new artistic director of the theater is Martina Maurič Lazar

As of April 1st, 2026, the artistic direction of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre has been taken over by Martina Maurič Lazar, an actress and director, a member of the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre ensemble since 2000.

 

 She graduated from the First Gymnasium in Maribor; she studied English language and comparative literature at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. She continued her studies at the DAMU - Academy of Theatre in Prague, at the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre, majoring in acting. She graduated in 1997 and received her master's degree in 1999. Her mentors were Jan Schmid, Ivan Vyskočil, Ada Fryntová, Markéta Schartová, Milan Forman, Jan Dvořák, Nina Maliková, Jan Hančil and Hana Smrčková. In Prague, she acted in Studio Ypsilon, Archa Theatre, Studio Roxy - NoD, Alfredu ve dvoře and Studio Damuza.

At the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre, she acted, animated and directed numerous plays (Four Black Ants, Tomorrow Was a Party, Bunny's House, Fairy Tales for Ants). She has been awarded for her work several times (for acting and animation in the plays Matiček is getting married, Snow White, Peskar, The Four Musicians, Love Dolls, You Are the Hunter, with the Golden Stick for the role of Irene in Perseus, with the award for authorial expression in Draw me a Lamb, etc.).

 

She is also dedicated to authorial theatre, with the play Power at LGL following her Draw Me a Lamb, The Postman's Fairy Tale and Leila.

She regularly collaborates with RTV Slovenia programs, mostly working with cartoons for the Children's and Youth Program.

Since 2013, she has been an assistant professor of puppetry, occasionally teaching at the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek and at the Faculty of Social Work in Ljubljana
